Until further notice, customers may continue to purchase YRT paper tickets and monthly passes at existing Fare Media Agents in Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham and Toronto. All Fare Media Agents that currently sell the GTA Weekly Pass will continue to do so. Visit the Where to Buy page for your nearest agent location. All multiRide ticket vending machines, with the exception of the one located at Newmarket GO Bus Terminal, will continue to sell 10-pack tickets and monthly passes.

Why is YRT eliminating paper tickets and passes? |
With the PRESTO fare card system well in operation, it is time to switch to a single fare payment system. Additionally, YRT has launched a mobile fare payment app, YRT Pay. However, customers using TTC bus routes in York Region may continue to purchase and use paper tickets and passes until further notice. The YRT Pay app and GTA Weekly Pass are also options. |
How do I pay for my bus fare? |

Will monthly passes still be available? |
Yes; customers can load a YRT monthly pass onto a PRESTO card and use it for unlimited travel within the month. Customers can also purchase and use a monthly pass through the YRT Pay app. Customers using TTC bus routes in York Region are advised not to use PRESTO. Instead, they can load a monthly pass on the YRT Pay app or purchase paper monthly passes at select ticket agent locations. |
Will GTA Weekly passes still be available? |
Yes; the GTA Weekly pass will still be available for sale in current form, at select agent locations. Visit our Where to Buy page for agent locations. |
Will Ride to GO tickets still be available? |
Yes; Ride to GO fares will still be available for purchase using PRESTO or exact cash fare on YRT routes. However, ticket vending machines (located at terminals and vivastations) will no longer sell Ride to GO tickets as of July 1. |
Can I still pay cash fare? |
Yes; however, we encourage customers to take advantage of discounted fares offered through the PRESTO card and the YRT Pay app. View our Fare Chart for a complete list of discounted rates. |
Will there be any changes made to the two-hour transfer period? |
No; customers will still be able to travel on any YRT route in any direction for two hours with just one fare. |
What do I do with my old tickets? |
Paper tickets will continue to be accepted until further notice. Customers with leftover 2 Zone tickets can have the value loaded onto a PRESTO card. This can be done at the YRT head office located at 50 High Tech Road, 5th floor, Richmond Hill. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. |

What do I do if I take TTC in York Region? |
Currently, customers using TTC bus routes in York Region are advised not to use PRESTO, and to continue using paper tickets or passes, the GTA Weekly Pass or the YRT Pay app. PRESTO does not yet provide a way to pay both TTC and YRT fare using a PRESTO card. TTC is working with PRESTO on a solution, which will be communicated once available. What do I do if I travel across a zone boundary using a PRESTO card? |
As of July 1, 2017, YRT has removed the fare zones across the Region. Customers are able to travel from the north to the south with only one fare (the two-hour travel window will still apply). PRESTO customers NO longer have to press the 2 or 3 Zone button or notify the driver when crossing a zone boundary. Customers may simply tap their card on the PRESTO device and board the bus. A zone upgrade will NOT be charged. |
Do the Dial-a-Ride services accept PRESTO? |
Yes; all forms of payment are accepted on all Dial-a-Ride services (PRESTO, Pay app, paper tickets and monthly passes, and exact cash). |
