The YRT Youth On-board (YO!) Program is a student-led initiative in all York Region catholic and public high schools. It provides students with the opportunity to access transit information conveniently in their own school and encourages them to try transit. Each school's YO! Program is led by two to four enthusiastic students (YO! Ambassadors).
YO! Ambassadors
YO! Ambassadors collaborate with YRT to promote the use of public transit in their school. YO! Ambassador responsibilities include:
-
Setting up monthly displays
-
Making PA announcements
-
Providing a place for students to conveniently get transit information
-
Keeping their own school informed of the latest transit news, contests, events and more
YO! Ambassadors are volunteers recruited by YRT. YO! Ambassadors receive a starter kit of transit information and promotional items, along with assistance and training from YRT staff to ensure the success of the YO! Program in their school.
YO! Ambassador benefits
Becoming a YO! Ambassador has many benefits. YO! Ambassadors have the opportunity to develop skills in marketing, communications, promotions, leadership and public speaking, and increase their knowledge of public transit and the community. YO! Ambassadors also receive community service hours, a letter of recognition from YRT and monthly rewards.
